Welcome to the 1998-2000 Season of GFWC West Virginia. Club women stand at the brink of an administration and at the brink of the new millennium. Both new and old challenges greet the club member. As we serve federation with the theme, "To Every Thing There Is A Season," during the 1998-2000 Administration, let each of us find the season and determine to accomplish what is in season.
Let the garden of membership continue to grow throughout the seasons in the administration. Let's reach out to other women in our communities to let them know there is value in volunteerism and that they benefit personally from their involvement as they work toward making a difference in the world.
Lead and be led in the season of leadership development as club members grow in diverse talents and abilities. We are blessed to have general, junior, and juniorcite members who have common goals as they pursue the GFWC motto of "Unity in Diversity".
Find the needs of your community and work for improvement regardless of what department the work fits. Focus TIME and attention on our state project, West Virginia - Timeless Traditions. Combine the impetus of this project with Community Improvement, the special project of our GFWC President, Maxine Scarbro, and show the difference we can make in our communities and state.
Improving the literacy skills of kids and adults can make a real difference. Become a concerned citizen for the literacy needs in your area. Help to acccomplish the 12.5 million dollar challenge set forth by Libraries 2000 in conjunction with the Presidents' Summit. Remember that is the goal set before us and no federated club member wants us to fall short of accomplishing it.
Communicate within the membership -- Share GFWC materials. Tell your club story in newsletters to share with your membership and leaders throughout federation. Work with the local media to tell the story of your club and federation in as many ways as possible. Keep your club image visible in the community and bind with other civic groups to make an even stronger impact within the community.
Health issues, especially women's health issues, must be addressed and promoted for a more able-bodied society.
Pull together to focus on the needs surrounding your club and members; set projects into motion, but never forget to leave TIME for fun and family. Remember your Board and Council are here to help you move forward as a vital, volunteer force in your community. Choose to spend the necessary TIME in projects that will make a difference in our communities.
Sincerely,
Margaret Shires
